Instagram Adds Reposts, Map, and New “Friends” Tab to Their Social Media Platform Learn about Instagram's latest August 2025 update features!
In Instagram’s latest update (August 06, 2025), new features were released to help social media users better connect with their friends on the app. The update includes a reposting feature, an Instagram map, and a new “Friends” tab in Reels. With these features, it’s easier for users to stay in touch through content they’re enjoying on Instagram.
Reposts
The new repost feature allows users to share public posts and Reels to their followers’ feeds and their own “Reposts” tab. Biggest takeaways for this feature:
-
Reposted content is always credited to the original creator.
-
Once reposted, the post or Reel will live in a dedicated tab on the user’s profile, next to tagged photos. This separate tab allows users to revisit their reposts at any time.
-
Potential exposure of your content to a wider audience.
What does this mean for your farm business?
This feature makes it easier for users to share content they enjoy and for creators to reach a wider audience. If someone reposts your content, it may be recommended to that person’s followers, even if they don’t follow you. This is a new opportunity to reach more people through your posts and Reels! On the other hand, you can repost content that features your farm products. Does one of your CSA members make delish meals each week? Repost them so others can enjoy and reference back to!
How to repost?
-
Locate the repost icon (two arrows forming a square) beneath the post or reel.
-
Tap the repost icon to instantly repost.
-
You can add an optional note to the post after you reshare (type into the thought bubble that appears on screen and press save).
-
Revisit reposts any time in the “Reposts” tab of your profile.
Instagram Map
The Instagram Map allows users to share their last active location with others. User can control who can see their location: followers you follow back, Close Friends, specific individuals, or no one. This feature is the most controversial of the newly released features; however, users still can protect their privacy because location sharing for this feature is turned off, unless you opt in. Find the Instagram map at the top of your DM inbox. Biggest takeaways for this feature:
-
Use the map to see content your friends and favorite creators are posting from cool spots.
-
Explore location-based content, regardless of whether you choose to share your location.
-
Reels, posts, and stories with a location tagged are available for 24 hours.
-
If you use location sharing, your location is updated whenever you open the app or return to the app if it’s been running in the background. You can turn off location sharing at any time.
What does this mean for your farm business?
This feature allows customers to tag your farm location on the Map, so ask your customers to tag you if they take photos (and have opted into this feature). The more customers tag your farm in their posts, the more exposure you are getting on the Map! Word of mouth marketing for direct-to-consumer farms is huge, so take advantage of this opportunity to potentially capture new customers browsing their friends’ locations on the Instagram Map. Additionally, if you tag your farm’s location in posts and Stories, those posts can appear to anyone searching or browsing that area on the map. If you sell at multiple markets, tag those market locations too, so your products will show up in that map feed.
New “Friends” Tab
The new “Friends” tab in Reels allows users to see content their friends have interacted with. To access your Friends tab, tap the “Friends” tab at the top of Reels. Biggest takeaway for this feature:
-
Allows users to see the content their friends have liked, created, reposted, or commented on, encouraging greater social engagement.
What does this mean for your farm business?
Non-followers can be exposed to your content through the Friends tab, similar to the new Repost feature. If your content is interacted with by someone, it may appear in the “Friends” tab of that person’s followers, even if they don’t follow you. Again, this is a new opportunity to reach more people through your posts and Reels!
These updates aim to enhance user connection and content discovery on the platform. Additionally, Instagram is testing a feature that provides users with a monthly summary of their account's performance.
