What is a GAP Audit?

A GAP audit is a third party process where an inspector is invited to the farm to verify that the farm is in compliance with various food safety practices as specified within that audit. There are different audit types and auditing bodies, and you should check with your buyer to see what kind of audit they accept.

Who should complete a GAP audit?

A GAP Audit is a a buyer-driven requirement--it is not a requirement from the government. As farms grow and explore new market channels, some (wholesale distributors, grocery stores, etc.) require third-party GAP certification for their vendors. Ask your buyer if he or she requires a GAP Audit and which type(s) of audits the organization will accept.
